LAHORE:The Department of Social Welfare and Baitul Maal (SW&BM) and Unicef have agreed to appoint a technical consultant to review provisions of the proposed law on child protection.
A Unicef delegation called on Punjab Minister for Social Welfare Syed Yawar Abbas Bukhari here on Tuesday and made suggestions on the draft law. Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Maal Punjab Secretary Hassan Iqbal also attended the meeting and solicited project proposals from Unicef. “Draft act would be finalised after comprehensive deliberations of all stakeholders,” said the minister. Bukhari observed that capacity building of SW&BM was of utmost importance before taking over the subject of child protection. He urged that making legal framework on fast track was necessary to ensure elimination of child abuse and their welfare.

VENICE, Fla. â A Venice couple was charged with child neglect after a 21-month-old child consumed cocaine in their care, the Sarasota County Sheriff s Office said.
The sheriff s office said deputies were initially called on Jan. 8, 2021, to a Venice home in reference to an unconscious child who was not breathing.
When first responders arrived, Kaitlyn Van Dorn said while on a walk, the child picked up an unknown object from the ground and put it in his mouth. The child then began stumbling and became limp before losing consciousness, officials said.
